Biography I was introduced to photography as a young boy by my grandmother who had a makeshift darkroom in her attic. I was given a second-hand SLR camera for my eighth birthday and the seeds of my love of photography were sown. Never stopping to consider that photography could be anything but a hobby, I progressed through school and university with the intention of getting a 'real job'. I graduated from Trinity College, Oxford, in 1999 with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and began a career in healthcare management at the Department of Health and then at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital in London. Belatedly realising that life is too short not to love your job, I returned to college to study photography at the Arts Institute in Bournemouth, freelancing at the Southern Daily Echo in Southampton in the evenings and at weekends to pay the bills. This led to a staff job at Gazette Newspapers based in Basingstoke where I cut my teeth and went on to manage the picture desk as Chief Photographer. I now work independently, photographing weddings and editorial and corporate commissions across the south of England. I feel incredibly privileged to be a photographer. I get a real buzz from having a vocation that is also my hobby, and from having behind-the-scenes access to what goes on in the world and the range of fascinating people within it. I like to think I bring that enthusiasm with me to every assignment and that it shows in the quality of my work. |
