Shirley runs an animal rescue centre. Every so often I go round to her house and photograph a selection of her guests. On the most recent occasion I was joined by Aaron who was with me on work experience. I'm all for work experience. It was through that kind of generosity that I was given my first break in photography. In a roundabout way, having people tag along with me now is my way of repaying people like Frank and Joe who were patient with me when I was starting out. Aaron was immensely helpful: keen to learn, full of ideas, and ready with conversation without being overbearing. Without being asked, he also carried my gear, and held my brolly while I photographed Shirley's animals.
