When I were a lad, Bridgford Park had an old-skool witch's hat in its playground. It was an incredible contraption: part roundabout, part sea-saw; a giant cone-shaped scaffold that pivoted on a pole and crushed children between its bars as it did its thing. It was a tort-lawyer's wet-dream. Luckily, Bridgford didn't have tort-lawyers in those days. Or trendy coffee shops. Eventually the spoilsports from the council took the witch's hat away.

Things have moved on a bit since then. I've not been to Bridgford Park for a few years, but elsewhere, from what I can tell, the new thing is the "Surfrider". There must be someone somewhere whose job is to design this stuff. What a job that would be.
